Nestled in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India, this glacier stands at an elevation of 4268 meters, covering an expansive 37 square kilometers of pristine wilderness. The trail, starting from the enchanting base camp of Munsyari, offers a perfect blend of natural splendor and thrilling challenges.
While the journey may be demanding at times, with occasional trials, the ultimate reward lies in the breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Trishuli (7070m) and Hardeol (7151m). The trail unfolds a unique tapestry of beauty, making every step worthwhile. Located in the tehsil of Munsiyari, just 15 kilometers northeast of Nanda Devi, Milam Glacier ranges in elevation from 5,500 meters to 3,870 meters at its snout. Encompassing an area of 37 square kilometers and stretching 16 kilometers, the glacier is a visual spectacle and a testament to the raw beauty of nature.
Closed off to trekkers and visitors in 1962, Milam Glacier reopened its doors in 1994, becoming a sought-after destination for adventurers. Day 1: Arrival in Kathgodam
Commence your adventure with an overnight journey from Delhi, arriving in Kathgodam in the morning. Journey to Pithoragarh, where, after reaching Pithoragarh, check-in to the hotel. Enjoy a relaxing dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Pithoragarh to Munsiyari (127 kms) Post breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Pithoragarh to Munsiyari, traversing wooded hilly areas with breathtaking mountain views. Check in at the camp and explore the nearby areas of Munsiyari at your leisure.
Day 3: Munsiyari to Leelam After breakfast, drive briefly and meet the mixed horses' team. Follow the Gauri River Ganga upstream, trek down to 1500 meters, and climb gently towards Leelam for lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4: Leelam to Bogdyar Complete formalities at the Indo-Tibet Border Police checkpoint after breakfast. Climb through a well-made track, showcasing the friendly relations between India and China. Stay overnight at the tent.
Day 5: Bogdyar to Rilkot Start your trek to Raillkot after breakfast, passing through snow-clad bridges and shrines. Enjoy breathtaking views of 7000-meter peaks, have lunch, and visit a fort on a hilltop at Railkot. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 6: Rilkot to Pacchu After breakfast, walk to Martoli and trek further to Pachu valley. Enjoy the view of Nanda Devi and Tirsul mountains. Stay in a camp in the village square. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 7: Pacchu to Base Camp
Today's trek takes you to Pachu Gad, offering superb views of Nanda Devi and Nanda Devi East. Experience a stunning sunset. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 8: Base Camp to Milam
After breakfast, return to Milam. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 9: Milam to Milam Glacier and back
Embark on a day-return excursion to Milam Glacier (4100 meters). Witness the pristine ice exposed during the trek. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 10: Milam to Bogdyar
After breakfast, trek away from the Tibet border towards the humid gorge. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 11: Bogdyar to Munsiyari
Enjoy a leisurely morning, followed by a long trek back to Munsiyari. Treat yourself to cold beer and hot showers. Dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
Day 12: Munsiyari to Pithoragarh
After breakfast, travel back to Almora and check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Pithoragarh.
Day 13: Departure to Kathgodam (244 kms)
Conclude your trek with a hearty breakfast, journeying back to Kathgodam. Plenty of bus and train services are available. Your trek services come to an end in Kathgodam.
Included:
Transportation: To Kathgodam to Destintion and Back To Kathgodam
Safety Equipment: First aid, medical kit, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, Walkie-Talkies, etc.
Accommodation: Provided from Day 1 to the Last Day. Accommodation includes tents/homestays/lodges, Camp triple sharing accommodation and separate arrangements for girls/ladies.
Meals: All meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on the Last Day in Trekking. Food will be provided during the trek.
Permits/Forest Fees: Trekking permits and forest passes will be arranged.
Experienced Trek Leader & Team: Qualified trek leaders with basic/advanced mountaineering certifications, as well as support staff including cooks, helpers, and porters.
Excluded:
Food during Road Transit: Meals during transit from the pickup point to the trip starting point are not provided; trekkers must cover these costs themselves.
Mule and Porter Charges: Trekkers who opt to use mules or porters will incur an additional charge of Rs 350 per day.
Personal Expenses: Any personal expenses incurred during the trek are not covered.
Stay on the Last Day: The trek cost does not include accommodation on the last day.
